The Duck House - Lonelyville Fire Island - Beach House Rental

About the Duck House

The Duck House sits right on the Great South Bay in the Fire Island community of Lonelyville. Because of Fire Island’s unique location, bay front houses on Fire Island are one of the few places on the east coast where you can watch the sunset over water.

There are 3 bedrooms, one master and two guest rooms. The Master Bedroom has a view of the bay including its own elegant bathroom. There are two guest bedrooms, one with two beds, and another with three beds. There is one more full bath, one half bath, and an outdoor shower.

The Duck House used to be two separate houses that were combined, so there is a living room in the bottom of the front house, as well as another living room on the second floor of the back house with 50” Plasma TV. This setup is great for families with children. You can have kids watch TV in the back house while adults can enjoy a glass of wine and dinner in the front house.

The Duck House has a large front deck, which includes an 8-person outdoor dining table, deck chairs, chaise lounge, and barbecue. There is also a smaller deck on the 2nd floor that is great for reading and suntanning. The Duck House is a 5 minute walk to the beach.

Where is Fire Island?

Fire Island is about 50 miles from New York City, about half way to the Hamptons. No personal cars are allowed on Fire Island. Ferries run often from Bay Shore, NY. You can drive to Bay Shore, take Long Island Rail Road, or Tommy’s Taxi to get to the ferry terminal. No ferries go to Lonelyville, but ferries go to neighborhing communities of Dunewood (8 minute walk), and Atlantique (3 minute walk). People get around on Fire Island via bicycle or walking.

Where is Lonelyville?

Lonelyville is one of the smaller communities on Fire Island. It has about 50 houses and no stores. It is narrow (1/4 mile) meaning the Duck House is located on the bay, but only a short walk to the ocean. Lonelyville has one of the widest and least populated beaches on Fire Island.

Grocery store, hardware store, and restaurant in nearby Fair Harbor are a 15 minute walk, or 10 minute bicycle ride. It’s also about a 1 mile walk to Ocean Beach (Fire Island’s biggest town) where there are many restaurants, bars, and shops.

What is Fire Island?

Fire Island is NOT THE HAMPTONS. People on Fire Island relax and enjoy themselves in a casual atmosphere. It is common to see people walking around or even eating at restaurants without shoes on. It’s a place to chill out and is not a “scene”. Most common activities are spending the day at the beach, bicycling, cooking, reading, relaxing, and watching sunsets.
